Fandom: 30 Rock
Pairing: Jack/Liz
Word Count: 5,700
Rating: NC-17

Notes: The plan was to post this a while ago, shortly after the previous part, but I put it aside because this series depresses me to write. And probably you to read. But, anyway, here's the next part.
Summary: A day in Liz's new life. (Part of the 'Just Like Glass' series.)

Disclaimer: Characters are not mine. Title is from a Noah and the Whale song, 'My Broken Heart.' Don't sue.

Dec. 29th, 2009 03:44 am The Year in Fandom

I am supposed to be writing, but I'd rather be asleep. If I sleep, though, I will feel guilty for not writing. So, instead of responding to more comments on my AO3 post, which got linked on [community profile] metafandom and is therefore having comment awesomeness, I will do a fandom end-of-year meme I stole from someone on my networks page. However, before we do that, a question: Has anyone seen a good end-of-year survey about fic writing? I am so bored with the normal one.

Meme. )

  • 01:20:38: When I get my dentures, they'd better let me pick how my teeth are going to look. I don't want generic bs, I want my canines pointy & cool.
  • 01:21:49: Also, I'd want cheapo alternate sets for having fun with. One with vampire teeth, one where they're all pointy like Klingons. . . .
  • 01:22:05: Maybe a set with the molars in the front, just to screw with people's minds?
  • 02:41:05: @captainsharmie Oh, no problem. I've been saving a bunch to my computer, mostly by 1 or 2 authors I've been stalking--let me look.
  • 02:44:30: @captainsharmie http://bit.ly/4LztZ8 is Christmassy and cute. http://bit.ly/8TmdTt heavy hurt/comfort (Watson injured on a case).
  • 02:45:22: @captainsharmie Have you read the real stories? The only one I have, The Adventure of the Dying Detective that I was quoting last night-GAY.
  • 02:47:13: @captainsharmie http://bit.ly/SNAPS (<-? LOL) is porn that I didn't expect to like as much as I did--hysteria machine, nuff said.
  • 02:48:19: @captainsharmie http://bit.ly/AdvenDying There is so much love in this one. Reads like a fanfic, I kid you not.
  • 02:52:51: @captainsharmie bit.ly/4IR86m = W/m -> H/W--m is a book char described as having a "dramatic introduction to H". Yea-uh. H natch v. jealous.
  • 02:54:27: @captainsharmie If you could decipher the last, LOL. I'm dying to see it again bc my brain wants to fic movie!verse really hard.
  • 02:54:56: @deepestsilence Glad, bb. Just popped into my head whilst I was picking a popcorn fleck out of my horrid, horrid teeth.
  • 03:17:16: @deepestsilence Excellent. I was just about to contact Mrs. Hudson to inquire if you'd communicated re: your involvement in the matter.
  • 03:25:21: @deepestsilence What manner of intrusion into our lives will they divine next? No matter, you're here now.
  • 03:26:46: @deepestsilence When you get a picture of the overall situation re: the Schurston girl, we shall confer. I have a preliminary deduction,
  • 03:27:50: @deepestsilence but will await your input and notes before proceeding. It appears the most nefarious of the possibilities may be correct.
  • 03:34:01: @deepestsilence It is clear that the girl orchestrated the telegram about her sickly mother to be sent by the Forester chap, and that she
  • 03:34:25: @deepestsilence was planning to join him in London, but have you any evidence suggesting she intended to follow him on the Egypt trip?
  • 03:37:16: @deepestsilence Ah. My allowing of others to handle my funds proves my disadvantage once again, John, as I admit I overlooked that point.
  • 03:37:39: @deepestsilence By Jove, Watson. Just reexamined the Egypt trip brochure, and whose name graces its pages but one Professor Finknottle!
  • 03:38:57: @deepestsilence You spent time in Afghanistan, tell me--are there many desert newts on which Gussie could base his myriad lectures?
  • 03:43:29: @deepestsilence A pity. I know many who would relish his presence on a different continent for long stretches at a time.
  • 03:56:13: @deepestsilence Strange. Also, I sent you a deduction presuming your investigation was completed--I now wish I could rescind it.
  • 03:59:05: @deepestsilence What's it telling you? One of my FB friends was having difficulty as well.
  • 04:02:52: @deepestsilence Weird. I had mine closed because it doesn't like to update with your stuff if I've got it open, and it popped back open fine
  • 04:21:44: @deepestsilence Try another browser?
  • 04:32:59: @deepestsilence My emails report that you accepted, but then sent another. I think it's because we were wrong on the last item.
  • 04:36:39: @deepestsilence Did you manage to talk to the lady of the house, Watson? I'm not seeing anything pertaining to that in your casebook.
  • 04:39:10: @deepestsilence If she expected a visit from her daughter, for one. That should tell us if she planned to come home or continue elsewhere.
  • 04:39:34: @deepestsilence (Do you actually get to ask questions? I've never had an interrogation, just finding evidence in empty rooms.)
  • 04:41:56: @deepestsilence Do we know how far along she was in her stay at Bath? If each party thought her at the other place, could well go abroad.
  • 04:43:20: @deepestsilence Also, out of my own morbid curiosity, see if you can use your medical wisdom to pry into the nature of her ailment.
  • 04:43:39: @deepestsilence You never know what might be relevant to this or future endeavors.
  • 04:46:21: @deepestsilence A pity I can't be present for this interview, Watson. I seem to think I'd find her rather engaging.
  • 04:49:19: @deepestsilence Perhaps something relating to the brother? I don't recall her ever being interviewed on that matter.
  • 04:51:52: @deepestsilence A pity. I would have relished the look on Lestrade's face when I presented him with summary closings on two cases at once.
  • 04:53:49: @deepestsilence Unaware, I presume? The same as with her writings to our mysterious Mr. Forester?
  • 05:00:32: @deepestsilence I had faith that you would prevail, my friend. Hand them here, and mind not to touch the experiment on the side table--
  • 05:00:54: @deepestsilence it's rather toxic and I'd much like you unharmed when I finish my perusal.
  • 05:06:35: @deepestsilence Ah. Yes. Still quite sorry about that suit, my Watson. I know you favored that color--it was rather fetching on you.
  • 05:08:17: @deepestsilence Grr. I accepted but it still isn't taking. Are we still wrong? Did you accept the one I sent; was that wrong too?
  • 05:08:37: @deepestsilence Because that means we've been through all the choices for the third item.
  • 05:10:38: @deepestsilence WTFITS. We've gotten it right with "return home" as the third (can't move any of them), which I know I put in ages ago
  • 05:11:12: @deepestsilence I mean, I assume that means we got it right. I'm unable to shift any of the options.
  • 05:16:06: Reward video for Ch2 of the Sherlock Holmes tie-in net game? *flails* OMFG AWESOME. This is the coolest movie webshit evar.
  • 05:16:54: @deepestsilence Evidence first, Watson. Two dead girls in a short time, while regrettable, are not connected until the facts indicate such.
  • 05:17:17: @deepestsilence Do you wish to continue our investigation tonight or retire for the evening, John?
  • 05:24:07: @deepestsilence Oh, yes. With a fellow medical man, if I recall correctly. Inquire on my behalf into any breakthroughs on the use of silver
  • 05:24:16: @deepestsilence nitrate in ophthalmologic work. I find it a fascinating compound myself.
  • 05:25:45: @deepestsilence Naturally, my dearest John. Proceed before me; these chemicals mustn't be left out all night--some were rather expensive.
  • 05:26:02: @deepestsilence I'll join you in your chambers momentarily.
  • 05:32:44: @deepestsilence I fear that Lestrade may be on our heels tomorrow as well, and it would hardly do for Mrs. Hudson to grant him entry with us
  • 05:33:10: @deepestsilence playing the layabout, but nor would it do for the same while the house is filled with noxious fumes, wouldn’t you agree?
  • 05:39:18: @deepestsilence That woman is far too good to us. It's often I begin to suspect her tolerance of our--my--behavior is a result of her
  • 05:40:23: @deepestsilence possessing certain knowledge about our partnership we might not otherwise want disclosed. She's far more perceptive than she
  • 05:41:36: @deepestsilence is often given credit for, I find.
  • 05:41:52: @deepestsilence Anyway, off to bed with you. I shall make up to you every minute my head is not on the pillow neighboring yours. *eyeglint*
  • 05:45:36: @deepestsilence Dead, dead or just battery dead?
  • 05:48:40: @deepestsilence So just as good as. Is it a weird charger? I thought one of the old ones you had was miniUSB.
  • 05:50:45: @deepestsilence Also, I totally wish we had found this before seeing the movie. We know too much now. It's hard to play it like we don't.
  • 06:06:55: @deepestsilence RACHEL, CONAN DOYLE AND OSCAR WILDE WERE BFFs. (Or, you know, met and liked each other.) SO GAY. http://bit.ly/8m18g0
  • 06:13:27: @deepestsilence You did, dear heart, you did. Still nothing re: actual gay (only on page 2 of 4 but seems they only met the once?).
  • 06:17:34: @deepestsilence Ooh. Cool. GOD DAMN I LOVE THIS FANDOM. That is all. Also, I was *so* tired and then we solved the case and now I'm not. :(
  • 06:22:30: @deepestsilence LOL, this. If my headache would go away, it'd be glorious. Srsly, people have been tromping on the floor upstairs all night.
  • 06:25:25: @deepestsilence Oo Me too! Slamming like car door, or slamming like car body into another car?
  • 06:27:35: Doyle's “The Red-Headed League" takes place on a court right off of Fleet Street. Haircuts, anyone?
  • 06:29:23: @deepestsilence Seriously, how perfect is it that the one where the title is about hair has that setting?
  • 06:29:43: @deepestsilence That's good. Wager you'd know it if it were a destructive slamming. Not a good neighborhood?
  • 19:21:07: @deepestsilence Do you remember Dr. Clarence being mentioned in the case? Like I said, wish we'd done this before movie, as obvs who he is,
  • 19:21:25: @deepestsilence but I don't recall his name popping up--maybe the sick mom's doctor or something?
  • 19:44:36: @deepestsilence If you happen to lay hands upon a copy of Miles Judd's letter to the papers, I should like a chance to read it, my good man.
  • 21:25:46: Read a bunch of Harry Potter fic today. God, I love that universe, even if not always what JKR did within it.
  • 21:51:21: Now watching the Big Bang Theory with Summer Glau. LOLOLOLOL. I've never watched this show regularly, but methinks that is a mistake.
  • 21:59:52: @Grandpa_Jones Was there 1 where the person knew? Always surprised when ppl fall for it bc there are similar shows everywhere.
  • 22:02:25: Sister just got home from Sherlock Holmes with an expression similar to mine. Will have to pull out those fic recs again for her.
  • 22:15:33: Did Yahoo just seriously force me into this overblown, takes too long to load, way more than I want in email inbox format? *grumbles*
  • 22:16:29: Been fighting it by staying as "classic" forever, even as they slowly added cumbersome features to morph it fancier. Blech.
  • 22:17:26: Ha, nope. Can still switch back. This isn't the first time they've switched me and tried to be all "Look, how neat!" Do not want, guys.
  • 22:36:41: @captainsharmie Wow. And I thought my creeping on 1300 was crazy. (Admittedly, I only started using it in September or so.)
  • 22:45:06: @captainsharmie SO. JEALOUS. I want a computerjob. Because as it is, I'm spending too much time on the computer and not making any money.

  • 00:06:11: @deepestsilence Did Dad enjoy? Were his reactions amusing? Did he snorfle at gay like us (as it's so obv even to those w/o slash goggles...)
  • 00:19:42: @captainsharmie Yeah. I saw that, and she had a good point, but it's not like the OP did it! *sigh* Holidays make our comm wankish, seems.
  • 00:25:19: Almost commented out loud re: Sherlock Holmes fic I'm reading that Holmes always has a larger penis than Watson. Barely caught self. Whew!
  • 00:29:34: @captainsharmie I know, right? Fandoms tend to decide 1 or the other (usually the more toppish) for a pairing and everybody sticks to it.
  • 01:11:20: @captainsharmie That's what I've always thought. Longer may be better simply bc more likely to hit the fun parts, but def. not "bigger". Oww
  • 01:34:39: @captainsharmie OH, I KNOW! For so many years, I only crushed/admired ppl way older. It's crazy now--it's not actually illegal anymore!
  • 01:40:23: @captainsharmie Indeed--he just looks so virginal. Someone you should be tousling the hair of, not. . . *airquotes* tousling the hair of.
  • 01:44:34: @captainsharmie LINKS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.
  • 02:02:33: @captainsharmie UNF. Also, he reminds me so much of Reid from Criminal Minds, esp the 1st one. Aren't they friends or some such?
  • 02:17:45: @captainsharmie LOLOL THAT PHRASE I AM STEALING IT. Ship them like the Enterprise indeed.
  • 03:54:39: @captainsharmie $40 for movies!? God! I was complaining about $7.50 a ticket down here. Even the new, fancy shaking seats are only $17.50!
  • 03:55:55: @deepestsilence OMIGOD. I read this one ages ago before I knew the fandom and still loved it--m. m. m. better now! http://bit.ly/PF19
  • 03:59:52: @deepestsilence . . . damn. I mean, what? You prolly would have drunk it to death anyway. (How did that end, btw? Presume you lived.)
  • 04:02:31: @deepestsilence Really? I mean, you imagine that these drunk college kids still get periods on the occasion.
  • 04:04:13: @deepestsilence Also, Watson, your dilly-dallying is setting back our investigation quite significantly. (Volume not really needed, FYI.)
  • 04:04:39: @deepestsilence OH. Well, no, as losing a baby is kind of like a massive, really really painful period times a million.
  • 04:05:04: @deepestsilence But I thought you meant getting drunk would have pushed it back, and I'd never heard that.
  • 04:08:11: @deepestsilence Conceivably, excess toxin in system, body knows is unfit for baby, holds off period. Like when really sick/not eating well.
  • 04:09:41: @deepestsilence Nor I. Just was trying to force facts to fit. Though the sick part is true, so if our bodies were just a bit smarter....
  • 04:20:52: @MoTancharoen This made me frantically check my watch to make sure I hadn't somehow forgotten and it was already the 1st!
  • 04:40:09: @deepestsilence "While Watson, a medical man, will be allowed in to interview the Mother Superior, you aren't considered worthy and won't."
  • 04:41:13: @deepestsilence You are somehow more meritorious than I, John? If only she knew the manner in which you have your way with me. . . .
  • 04:43:13: @deepestsilence Also, I trust you will peruse my casenotes closely enough to edit out the... irrelevant material prior to your publication?
  • 04:43:40: @deepestsilence (OMG we make this so much more fun together.)
  • 04:45:49: @deepestsilence While I believe too much of Lestrade's good name amongst the force is due to our assistance for him to report us as inverts,
  • 04:47:19: @deepestsilence that hardly precludes certain others from putting the Labouchère Amendment to full effect.
  • 04:48:43: @deepestsilence --And you claim I have only practical law knowledge. I'll have you know my ken extends quite thoroughly to the theoretical
  • 04:48:58: @deepestsilence when it involves matters of keeping you safe, my friend.
  • 05:07:33: @deepestsilence Nice! Concur, sir. JJ and Emily too.
  • 05:08:05: @deepestsilence Also, mah next Holmes bit is m. m. too long for Twitter, so putting it in casenotes, yeah?
  • 05:12:35: @deepestsilence An episode in particular? Must look that one up.
  • 05:16:39: @deepestsilence Well, the Sister's Dear John (or Hugh, in this case) letter certainly lacks a certain je ne sais quoi in its writing quality
  • 05:17:08: @deepestsilence --or perhaps I have simply become too spoiled by the beauty in the flourish of your own pen, John.
  • 05:48:59: @deepestsilence Wrong on the date, my friend, though I conclude with your logic elsewhere. If only the autopsy had been conducted
  • 05:49:24: @deepestsilence by your skillful hands, I am certain we'd have a smaller window in which to operate in narrowing down the date of the deed.
  • 05:50:10: @deepestsilence GODFUCK I DID IT AGAIN. Fix the conclude in your head for me.
  • 05:51:35: @deepestsilence Orly? It presented your deduction to me with "amicably", "other", and then the 6th of October.
  • 05:54:40: @deepestsilence Ah. Indeed, you will find if you navigate to the earlier reaches of my casebook, a copy of the 1890 almanac. Twas the 4th.
  • 05:57:20: @deepestsilence In fact, it was amongst the materials for our last case, so I cannot fault you for missing it-I nearly overlooked it myself.
  • 06:04:12: @deepestsilence Was thinking the same. V. little chance I'll be going to bed for at least a few hours yet :( but all the same, I concur.
  • 06:04:34: @deepestsilence To bed with us, Watson. I'll grab the port, you the Vaseline?
  • 06:07:24: @deepestsilence Yeah, sure! Ice skating? LOL. Call me and wake me up at some point. Shall keep phone by bed.
  • 06:07:52: @deepestsilence Also, we are so gay and I love you.
  • 06:09:37: @deepestsilence The 636-FUTURE-0 one still works. Idk what the actual number is, but it's hooked to that. 636-388-8730
  • 06:10:12: @deepestsilence Or, 314-965-0839 and tell somebody to stomp on the ground right above my bedroom in the basement.
  • 06:12:39: @deepestsilence Also, FYI, Vaseline crack from a real Doyle canon reference to removing V stains from Holmes sheets, I've gathered. *flails*
  • 06:15:53: @deepestsilence Married 2x and had kids, so probably not. Reading that story now to see what the broader context is. Will report tomorrow.
  • 06:18:09: "[Holmes] had a remarkable gentleness & courtesy in his dealings w/women. He disliked & distrusted the sex, but he was always chivalrous..."
  • 06:18:50: @Deepestsilence *points* PARAGRAPH TWO, GODDAMN.
  • 06:23:09: @deepestsilence Oh, it's so canon. In this one, 2nd year of W marriage and Holmes is wasting away from some disease and doesn't care. ;(
  • 06:24:59: @deepestsilence W is all lovey, H still mad re: disliked womenfolk, so slaps him down. LOCKS W IN HIS ROOM WITH HIM.
  • 06:26:26: Holmes (Adventure of the Dying Detective): "Don't forget, Watson. You won't fail me. You never did fail me." JESUS. Just kiss already.
  • 06:29:03: HOLY SHIT. CANON. NOTHING ANYONE CAN SAY WILL CHANGE MY MIND NOW. (Same source as before): "Quick, man, if you love me!"
  • 19:43:45: @deepestsilence So you have to go to Gutenberg and read The Adventure of the Dying Detective. Perfect that the 1st I happen upon is so gay.
  • 22:42:27: @deepestsilence This leg of the investigation seems to be on you, Watson. I've snooped around as I could, time for your... above-board work.
  • 22:52:14: @deepestsilence Oh, indeed? Of what nature, friend? I send my thanks again for dinner, by the way.
  • 22:58:02: @deepestsilence What manner of wonder will your acquaintances come up with next? Contact me when you wish to resume our work. I'll wait up.
  • 23:34:58: Watching Doctor Who: The End of Time part 1 again. Frankly did not like it overmuch 1st time around, so hoping it's better on the rewatch.

Dec. 28th, 2009 01:12 am Yuletide recs

Just finished my first read-through of the Yuletide archive. :D I'll be reading Madness next, and will hopefully have those recs up before the reveal.

Nine recs: The Authority; Babylon 5; The Giver; Mad Men; Murder, She Wrote; Princess Protection Program; Saving Face; Wicked )

I get the feeling that I could end up owing a lot of people ficlets, but if you want to guess what I wrote...

Dec. 27th, 2009 05:10 pm Secret Santa

I should probably confess that I lied like a dog. I actually claimed three prompts for [info]fakenews_fanfic's Secret Santa, and I'll put up a guessing post once all of the Secret Santa stories have been posted, but before the author reveal. Then I will write drabbles for people who guess correctly.

I have done a very good job of not giving any information away yet, so I think I can probably say this: at least one of my stories is currently kicking my ass. It doesn't help that I am trying to write 80s AU AU AU Christmas fluff, too, and I seem to have the inverse problem of what I usually have. Namely, I can't shut up. It also means I have limited quality control, though, which is a problem. My inner editor never come back online after I disconnected her for NaNoWriMo, it seems.

Anyway, here, have a picture of Rachel Maddow and flaming punch that is, sadly, not visibly on fire in any of my screen captures. Mm, fire. )

I'm loving Edinburgh thus far, and it's beautiful in the snow. I'm itching to get up Arthur's seat, but it's likely to be lethal underfoot so we're holding off a bit. Don't have internet access other than through my phone which I'm also enjoying - am listening to much radio and watching lots of films. Saw Shortbus last night which was joyous and wonderful.

Not sure if there's a plan for today - it's very grey out.

Dec. 27th, 2009 05:19 am prettylightsfic stories are live!

The 2009 [info]prettylightsfic archive is up. I got ophelia, you are so well-read, an Ellen Page/Anna Paquin story which inhabits Ellen in a way which is fun and hip, and includes X-Men 3 set antics and a romance which is fraught with the uncertainty of an early relationship. Awesome.

The first five people to correctly guess which story I wrote will get a ficlet. Only the first five because, well.

Comments are screened; comments which aren't guesses will be unscreened unless you tell me not to.

Dec. 27th, 2009 03:39 am You know how I feel about smells.

The grocery store was out of our soap today, so that meant buying new soap that smells different. It's something that might involve nectarines and white tea and ginger, but I am not entirely sure -- I just know it's the soap that goes with the deodorant I've been using, and I bought it because I really liked the smell of my deodorant. (You're welcome.)

Anyway, the point is it's sitting in the soap dish in the bathroom and, when I walked in there just now, I nearly barfed from the smell. "I recognize this smell," I said, and from there it took about ten seconds for me to realize why the smell made me gag.

It smells just like the vitamins I took as a kid, those square chewable vitamins that are orange, cherry, and grape. The orange and cherry were bad, but there is a special hatred in my soul for those grape ones, and I will not go near anything grape-flavored to this day because of them. (And, naturally, there were more grape in the bottle than anything else.) They tasted even more vile when you'd try to get the taste out of your mouth by washing them down with milk that had gotten warm, and I quickly learned how to palm the vitamins and either throw them in the garbage or hide them under furniture in another room.

Needless to say, my parents were quite startled when they moved the couch and found about three months of vitamins under there.

But, yes: I am buying new soap as soon as possible. I can't deal with that smell.

  • 00:09:42: takes back everything she ever said about not being crazy about Sherlock Holmes' two actors. RDj and JL are hot. RDj more so w/ the accent.
  • 02:33:13: Made several wrong turns and forgot you could turn around, so this may be the longest (game-wise) Oregon Trail game ever. We're on year 3.
  • 02:51:20: Also, there's a vague chance of my getting to go skiing in the not too distant future. It's expensive as fuck, but much cheaper than usual.
  • 03:56:37: @katchatters I was not familiar with the term "mannerpunk" until just now, but I'm crazily into that kind of fandom atm. Thx for the word!
  • 03:57:29: You know you've fallen hard for a fandom when you realize in the car you live off of Holmes St and just stop and giggle at the street sign.
  • 04:00:51: @captainsharmie Absolutely! That is, if you don't mind my obsessive Sherlock Holmes fangirling I'm doing at the moment ;)
  • 17:34:02: @katchatters Between your Padfoot/Moony love, Sherlock Holmes being GAY GAY GAY, and bustlewearingasskickery desires, I must follow you :)
  • 17:34:41: @deepestsilence Are you alive? What's up?
  • 17:39:29: @Grandpa_Jones I know, right? I <3<3 the gay, but previews lied. Looking forward to DVD, though--it means there will be tons of del scenes.
  • 17:43:17: @deepestsilence RACHEL RACHEL RACHEL http://bit.ly/6un5CN THE SOUNDTRACK IS JUST AS EPIC WITHOUT SHERLOCK HOLMES BEING GAY FOR WATSON.
  • 17:45:26: @deepestsilence Cool! Slept until 4, bc migraine+no sleeping one night just totally set me off schedule. Nothing fun's been happening here.
  • 17:49:29: @deepestsilence I need to do the same, but nothing woke me up b4 4. Which, you know, awesome, but not bc was a dancing thing I wanted 2go2.
  • 17:51:35: @deepestsilence Idk exactly, but teaching you to folk dance from lots of different countries. O EXCEPT MOM JUST SAID IT'S NOT UNTIL TONIGHT.
  • 17:54:57: @captainsharmie Oh, indeed? This was my first real TV love, the medical drama. Which one?
  • 18:04:58: @deepestsilence What time? You should come dancing w/ me! It's 7:30 to 10:45, though that's prolly right in the middle of most movie times.
  • 18:07:17: @captainsharmie Interesting--I hadn't heard of that one but I think I have read the book. Will have to look up the preview!
  • 18:10:17: @katchatters LOL! I actually thought about asking you "GQMF?" bc you seemed that cool, but I didn't want to confuzzle if you weren't. xD
  • 18:26:06: @deepestsilence Yeah, I've heard folks have been having trouble getting tickets if they just walk up right before. Were yesterday, at least.
  • 18:28:04: @deepestsilence Also, idk if we're going after all. Turns out the paper lied and it's not a special event or anything but just sort of a--
  • 18:29:33: @deepestsilence regular meeting of the int'l dance group, & costs $2. Not like $$$, but it's prolly a small group, and thus weird to be new.
  • 18:30:01: As cool as listening to the Sherlock Holmes soundtrack while reading Holmes/Watson fic is, when the music doesn't match the mood. . . .
  • 18:37:19: @deepestsilence Indeed we were. And it wouldn't have been 10 minutes ago IF TWITTER WOULD ACTUALLY WORK.
  • 18:40:08: @deepestsilence Huh. It's not giving me that "1 new tweet" message, and sometimes even when I refresh it it doesn't update.
  • 18:44:36: @deepestsilence Also, hello to the father. Should sneak a vidcam to the movie for me. Parents reluctant to pay for it on 1st run :(
  • 18:51:09: @deepestsilence Shan't want to intrude, Watson. Your family time is more divided than mine; my only is Mycroft, not your 2 Holmes *snorfle*
  • 18:55:53: @deepestsilence I'm flattered that I am that interesting. Let me feel out if Mom's still interested in this dancing thing.
  • 19:13:19: @deepestsilence Kay! Mom does want to go, but I want more ppl we know, so maybe will hook that up next week--you should come.
  • 19:14:04: @deepestsilence Gah! Sry. Twitter broke and then logged me out and then locked me out because I was trying to status update w/o a post. ?
  • 19:19:04: @deepestsilence So let me know. Mom's using me to facebook stalk people again.
  • 19:22:37: @deepestsilence I know, right? Mostly my aunt and her husband and kid troubles atm, bc her life is so hard and I feel bad.
  • 19:22:48: @deepestsilence Erm. I have Star Trek Scene-It!
  • 19:26:06: @deepestsilence :( indeed. Probably. You should come over here sometime and play it, bc at least Tyler could prolly give us a run for our $.
  • 19:28:17: @deepestsilence This is true. And sad. But maybe fic helps with TOS stuff? I haven't read/seen much of that but the movies.
  • 19:30:59: @deepestsilence Indeed. I also have TNG "Game of the Galaxies", which looks *awesome*, so we have to play that too. http://bit.ly/6iI18v
  • 19:33:28: @deepestsilence You know, eventually. Forgot I was going to tweet at you earlier, we should have traded places for Christmas.
  • 19:33:46: @deepestsilence Your people were making filet mignon. Mine made lasagna.
  • 19:38:22: Damn it! Holiday threw me off--didn't realize it was Saturday, and thus the gym closed early. Not helped by my not waking up until 4 :(
  • 19:52:37: @deepestsilence HI! *hugs* Squishysad part of SH fic makes me all virtually affectionate.
  • 19:56:13: @deepestsilence Have I mentioned lately how much I love this stuff? Author named Pandapony that I'm just reading *everything* by. <3<3<3<3<3
  • 20:00:48: @deepestsilence http://bit.ly/4S8eNz and its sequel are what I'm reading now. Could email rar of 1s I saved, as I know those are good?
  • 20:10:01: @deepestsilence Done! Took long because I was pointing out some of them.
  • 20:12:52: @deepestsilence Indeed. So what do you do at your dad's? I'm picturing evenings like to ours--sitting on couch on separate tech gadgets. ;)
  • 20:16:35: @deepestsilence Cats 101? LOLOL Drive around where? Lots of interesting sites in up-city (like upstate, you know? xD) St. Louis?
  • 20:21:24: @deepestsilence Yay! Best part of cars. Made me think of those big light display park places, 1 of which is a county park--my tax money? :(
  • 20:31:58: @deepestsilence I'm at least watching Bones. What is Cats 101?
  • 20:34:54: @deepestsilence You're really looking forward to Sherlock Holmes again, huh? (Also, Angela and Brennan are flirting right now. Yea-uh.)
  • 20:38:24: @deepestsilence You should call me in the middle and just set the phone on your lap and let me listen along!
  • 20:49:48: @adamlambert I totally disagree, FYI. The chemistry between Holmes and Watson was magnificent. Not an art film, but terribly entertaining.
  • 21:03:33: @deepestsilence LOL, Sherlock Holmes. Still trying to decide if I'd love it w/o the gay, but rly, can't take that out and still have a film.
  • 21:06:55: Cannot wear cool new leather gloves and use the computer. Leather does not activate the laptop touchpad mouse. Coolness foiled.
  • 21:18:41: @deepestsilence Yay!!!
  • 21:43:37: The Star Trek Scene-It game's instructional bit on the DVD are narrated by somebody trying to imitate Majel Barret. Computer voice FTW.
  • 21:51:12: @deepestsilence RACHEL WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE MOVIE NOW? INQUIRING MINDS WANT UPDATES ON THE GAY.
  • 23:28:57: @captainsharmie Ohyes. I noted the "oh poor me" attitude in the post intro & just moved along. Came back when I saw so many comments--whew!
  • 23:47:50: @captainsharmie Oh, I didn't know the graffiti post got wanky. That's too bad-I'd be so excited if I found something like that at my school.
  • 23:49:07: @captainsharmie I like all the "anybody from this place?" bits that came out of that 1, tho. Too bad no such redemption yet on the vidpost.
  • 23:59:46: @deepestsilence It's overish now, right? Just as good as the first time? Better seats this time around?

Okay, so I've positioned myself near to some internets which means: driveby meme time!

Comment with two characters and some kind of seasonal prompt, and I'll write them at least a drabble.

Hit me, baby, one more time :D?

Dec. 26th, 2009 06:27 pm More 80s AU? More 80s AU! And more tags!

Tagging is an addiction, you guys. An addiction. I am mentally composing a list of tags I want to use on the 80s AU, and the damn story is only half finished. (For the record, I know I want to tag it as coming of age and coming out, but, oddly, I'm not sure I want to tag it with queer themes. Go figure.)

Anyway, this comes up because I just had an important revelation. Well, maybe not just -- it was a few hours ago while I was brushing my teeth. I realized that part of the problem with the 80s AU is I don't know how the hell sleeping with Keith affects Rachel. I know what it does to him; indeed, I have written him post-sleeping-with-Rachel. But Rachel...she is unknown to me. I've written her a little after she slept with Keith, but I haven't written her sober after sleeping with Keith. I've only written her fucked-up, which...is kind of telling, really, now that I think about it, the amount of time she spends fucked-up immediately after coming out and after sleeping with Keith. Oh, kid.

Also, I have a question related to my previous post. I'll copy it here, since it might be of interest to some pundit ficcers -- and, not to mention I'd like to hear what you would do -- but I think it might make more sense if you check it out the context of the last post and its comments:

While discussing the idea of a "gay male character" tag, an additional question occurred to me regarding usage. If I were to write Brian Kinney (from Queer as Folk) into a gen story that made utterly no mention of or allusion to his sexual orientation, I would probably still use a tag that meant this story contains a character who happens to be gay. But what about Anderson Cooper? Would I tag "An Aesthetic Decision" or "The Pentagonal Table of Punditry" as stories containing a gay male character, even though Anderson isn't out in reality, and even though there is no real indication the Anderson in those stories identifies as gay? I think I might still tag them as containing a gay male character, although I wonder how fair that is.
