michellek | Dec. 29th, 2009 09:13 pm Saw My World Cave In (Jack/Liz) Title: Saw My World Cave In Prompt: 100_situations #010. Cry Fandom: 30 Rock Pairing: Jack/Liz Word Count: 5,700 Rating: NC-17 Table: Number Two. Notes: The plan was to post this a while ago, shortly after the previous part, but I put it aside because this series depresses me to write. And probably you to read. But, anyway, here's the next part. Summary: A day in Liz's new life. (Part of the 'Just Like Glass' series.)
Disclaimer: Characters are not mine. Title is from a Noah and the Whale song, 'My Broken Heart.' Don't sue.

sarken | Dec. 29th, 2009 03:44 am The Year in Fandom I am supposed to be writing, but I'd rather be asleep. If I sleep, though, I will feel guilty for not writing. So, instead of responding to more comments on my AO3 post, which got linked on metafandom and is therefore having comment awesomeness, I will do a fandom end-of-year meme I stole from someone on my networks page. However, before we do that, a question: Has anyone seen a good end-of-year survey about fic writing? I am so bored with the normal one.

thatfangirl | Dec. 28th, 2009 01:12 am Yuletide recs Just finished my first read-through of the Yuletide archive. :D I'll be reading Madness next, and will hopefully have those recs up before the reveal.
( Nine recs: The Authority; Babylon 5; The Giver; Mad Men; Murder, She Wrote; Princess Protection Program; Saving Face; Wicked )
I get the feeling that I could end up owing a lot of people ficlets, but if you want to guess what I wrote... 1 comment - Leave a comment

michellek | Dec. 27th, 2009 07:44 pm "i have an actress problem." "okay, don't try to move the body yourself." I'm probably not going to change my layout super soon, but I feel crappy and bored and have these couple of possibilities for a new header, so I decided to do a premature poll. And they're both season one-y. Nostalgia.

sarken | Dec. 27th, 2009 05:10 pm Secret Santa I should probably confess that I lied like a dog. I actually claimed three prompts for fakenews_fanfic's Secret Santa, and I'll put up a guessing post once all of the Secret Santa stories have been posted, but before the author reveal. Then I will write drabbles for people who guess correctly.
I have done a very good job of not giving any information away yet, so I think I can probably say this: at least one of my stories is currently kicking my ass. It doesn't help that I am trying to write 80s AU AU AU Christmas fluff, too, and I seem to have the inverse problem of what I usually have. Namely, I can't shut up. It also means I have limited quality control, though, which is a problem. My inner editor never come back online after I disconnected her for NaNoWriMo, it seems.
Anyway, here, have a picture of Rachel Maddow and flaming punch that is, sadly, not visibly on fire in any of my screen captures. ( Mm, fire. ) 10 comments - Leave a comment

queerpup | Dec. 27th, 2009 01:09 pm I'm loving Edinburgh thus far, and it's beautiful in the snow. I'm itching to get up Arthur's seat, but it's likely to be lethal underfoot so we're holding off a bit. Don't have internet access other than through my phone which I'm also enjoying - am listening to much radio and watching lots of films. Saw Shortbus last night which was joyous and wonderful.
Not sure if there's a plan for today - it's very grey out. 1 comment - Leave a comment

sarken | Dec. 27th, 2009 03:39 am You know how I feel about smells. The grocery store was out of our soap today, so that meant buying new soap that smells different. It's something that might involve nectarines and white tea and ginger, but I am not entirely sure -- I just know it's the soap that goes with the deodorant I've been using, and I bought it because I really liked the smell of my deodorant. (You're welcome.)
Anyway, the point is it's sitting in the soap dish in the bathroom and, when I walked in there just now, I nearly barfed from the smell. "I recognize this smell," I said, and from there it took about ten seconds for me to realize why the smell made me gag.
It smells just like the vitamins I took as a kid, those square chewable vitamins that are orange, cherry, and grape. The orange and cherry were bad, but there is a special hatred in my soul for those grape ones, and I will not go near anything grape-flavored to this day because of them. (And, naturally, there were more grape in the bottle than anything else.) They tasted even more vile when you'd try to get the taste out of your mouth by washing them down with milk that had gotten warm, and I quickly learned how to palm the vitamins and either throw them in the garbage or hide them under furniture in another room.
Needless to say, my parents were quite startled when they moved the couch and found about three months of vitamins under there.
But, yes: I am buying new soap as soon as possible. I can't deal with that smell. Leave a comment

walksbyherself | Dec. 27th, 2009 12:24 am will they find our hiding place... Okay, so I've positioned myself near to some internets which means: driveby meme time!
Comment with two characters and some kind of seasonal prompt, and I'll write them at least a drabble.

sarken | Dec. 26th, 2009 06:27 pm More 80s AU? More 80s AU! And more tags! Tagging is an addiction, you guys. An addiction. I am mentally composing a list of tags I want to use on the 80s AU, and the damn story is only half finished. (For the record, I know I want to tag it as coming of age and coming out, but, oddly, I'm not sure I want to tag it with queer themes. Go figure.)
Anyway, this comes up because I just had an important revelation. Well, maybe not just -- it was a few hours ago while I was brushing my teeth. I realized that part of the problem with the 80s AU is I don't know how the hell sleeping with Keith affects Rachel. I know what it does to him; indeed, I have written him post-sleeping-with-Rachel. But Rachel...she is unknown to me. I've written her a little after she slept with Keith, but I haven't written her sober after sleeping with Keith. I've only written her fucked-up, which...is kind of telling, really, now that I think about it, the amount of time she spends fucked-up immediately after coming out and after sleeping with Keith. Oh, kid.
Also, I have a question related to my previous post. I'll copy it here, since it might be of interest to some pundit ficcers -- and, not to mention I'd like to hear what you would do -- but I think it might make more sense if you check it out the context of the last post and its comments: While discussing the idea of a "gay male character" tag, an additional question occurred to me regarding usage. If I were to write Brian Kinney (from Queer as Folk) into a gen story that made utterly no mention of or allusion to his sexual orientation, I would probably still use a tag that meant this story contains a character who happens to be gay. But what about Anderson Cooper? Would I tag "An Aesthetic Decision" or "The Pentagonal Table of Punditry" as stories containing a gay male character, even though Anderson isn't out in reality, and even though there is no real indication the Anderson in those stories identifies as gay? I think I might still tag them as containing a gay male character, although I wonder how fair that is. 3 comments - Leave a comment
